Positions on the Executive Committee of the Student Union

 










 

There are four types of position on the Student Union Executive Committee, these are:

  • Officers

  • Members with Portfolio's

  • Members without Portfolio's

  • Additional Portfolio's

Officers primary role is the administration and management of the Student Union, although they also represent the students, they do not represent specific groups of the student body.

Members with Portfolio's are members of the Executive who have a specific area of responsibility / specific group to represent. 

Members without Portfolio's are members of the Executive who are known as "Co-opt's" there primary role is to assist the rest of the Executive Committee and be a general representative for all students in the college. 

Additional Portfolio's are given to existing members on the Executive. They are extra responsibilities which people assume, the additional portfolio's currently include: 

  • Student Governor

  • Student Representative on the Cross College Committee for Student Support

  • Student Representative on the Cross College Committee for Equality and Equal Opportunities

  • Student Representative on the Cross College Committee for Environmental Affairs

 

Positions/Posts on the Student Union Executive Committee

Officer Positions

  • President of the Student Union
    Is the public face of the Student Union. Is responsible for chairing General Meetings, Keeping the Student Union/Executive Committee organised and on task. The President is elected by the students and has a vote.

  • Vice President of the Student Union
    Is the second public face of the Student Union. Assists the President in his duties and will chair meetings if the President is not able to attend. The Vice President is elected by the students and has a vote.

  • Student Treasurer
    Is the member of the Executive Committee who handles Union finances. Is responsible for organising payment for services used by the Union, produces the Union budget, balances the accounts and is the lowest link in the chain for authorising expenditure. The Student Treasurer is elected by the students and has a vote. 

  • Secretary
    Is responsible for typing up minutes, proposals, documents members of the Executive need word processed. Manages and organises the Union's paperwork and documents. The Secretary is elected by the students and has a vote.

  • Senior Treasurer
    Is a member of the College Management and is appointed by the principle. Is responsible for double checking Union finances and gives final authorisation to Union expenditure. The Senior Treasurer is not elected by the students, does not sit on the Executive Committee (so doesn't attend General Meetings unless specifically needed to) and does NOT have a vote. 

  • Student Union Liaison Officer
    Is a member of the College Management and is appointed by the principle. Is responsible for assisting the Executive in turning policy/plans into action. Advices the Student Union Executive Committee on college policy and gives a college management perspective on things. The Liaison Officer is not elected, but does attend Executive Committee meetings but does NOT have a vote.

 

Members with Portfolio's

  • Secretary for Entertainment Affairs
    The Entertainments Secretary is responsible for co-ordinating the rest of the Executive Committee in organising student entertainment. The Entertainments Secretary will also deal with proposals from the students in relation to entertainment and will submit his/her own to the Executive. Is elected, has a vote.

  • Secretary for Sporting Affairs
    Is Sports Secretary is responsible for co-ordinating the rest of the Executive Committee in organising student sporting events. They represent all sports students in the college and try and promote Dudley College sports as much as possible. Is elected, has a vote. 

  • Secretary for Environmental Affairs
    The Environment Secretary is responsible for dealing with college environmental issues. They are responsible for promoting environmentally friendly practices (such as recycling) and handling environmental issues raised by the Students. The Environment Secretary usually co-ordinates with the different campus representatives on dealing with Environmental Issues for each campus. The Environment Secretary usually is given the additional portfolio of Student Representative on the Cross College Committee for Environmental Affairs. Is elected, has a vote. 

  • Broadway Campus Representative
    The Broadway Representative is the Union representative for students who study at the Broadway Campus. They will handle/co-ordinate on all matters relating to the Broadway Campus, receive/submit proposals relating to the campus and are basically the voice of Broadway students on the Dudley College Student Union Executive Committee. Is elected, has a vote. 

  • Rowley Regis Campus Representative
    The Rowley Representative is the Union representative for students who study at the Rowley Campus. They will handle/co-ordinate on all matters relating to the Rowley Campus, receive/submit proposals relating to the campus and are basically the voice of Rowley students on the Dudley College Student Union Executive Committee. Is elected, has a vote. 

  • Mon's Hill Campus Representative
    The Mon's Hill Representative is the Union representative for students who study at the Mon's Hill Campus. They will handle/co-ordinate on all matters relating to the Mon's Hill Campus, receive/submit proposals relating to the campus and are basically the voice of Mon's Hill students on the Dudley College Student Union Executive Committee. Is elected, has a vote. 

  • Wolverhampton Street Campus Representative
    The Wolverhampton St. Representative is the Union representative for students who study at the Wolverhampton St. Campus. They will handle/co-ordinate on all matters relating to the Wolverhampton St. Campus, receive/submit proposals relating to the campus and are basically the voice of Wolverhampton St. students on the Dudley College Student Union Executive Committee. Is elected, has a vote. 

  • Glass Centre Representative
    The Glass Centre Representative is the Union representative for students who study at the Glass Centre Campus. They will handle/co-ordinate on all matters relating to the Glass Centre Campus, receive/submit proposals relating to the campus and are basically the voice of Glass Centre students on the Dudley College Student Union Executive Committee. Is elected, has a vote. 

  • Afro-Caribbean (Black) Students Representative
    The Black or Afro-Caribbean Students Representative represents all Black students within the college across all the campuses. As well as representing them, they are responsible for handling issues of equality and racism towards students of Afro-Caribbean heritage. Is elected and has a vote. 

  • Asian Students Representative
    The Asian (students of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and others from the Asian region) Students Representative represents all Asian students within the college across all the campuses. As well as representing them, they are responsible for handling issues of equality and racism towards students of Asian heritage. Is elected and has a vote. 

  • International Students Representative
    The International Students Representative represents all International students within the college across all the campuses. As well as representing them, they are responsible for handling issues relating to International Students. Is elected and has a vote. 

  • Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Students Representative
    The LGB Students Representative represents all lesbian, gay or bisexual students within the college across all the campuses. As well as representing them, they are responsible for handling issues relating to discrimination against LGB students. Is elected and has a vote. 


  • Male Students Representative
    The Male Students Representative represents all male students within the college across all the campuses. As well as representing them, they are responsible for handling issues of equality and sexism towards male students. Is elected and has a vote. 

  • Female Students Representative
    The Female Students Representative represents all female students within the college across all the campuses. As well as representing them, they are responsible for handling issues of equality and sexism towards female students. Is elected and has a vote. 

  • Community Students Representative
    The Community Students Representative represents all students at Dudley College who are on a community programme (they do not attend full time classes and mainly study at home or within their respective community). The Community Students Representative is responsible for ensuring these students are included in college wide student events.

  • Part Time Students Representative(s)
    The Part Time Students Representative(s) represent all students at Dudley College who are on a part-time study programme. The Part-Time Students Representative(s) is responsible for ensuring these students are included in college wide student events.

  • Higher Education Students Representative
    The Higher Education Students Representative represents all students on Higher Education programme at Dudley College. The Higher Education Representative is responsible for ensuring these students are included in college wide student events.

  • Disabled Students / Students with Learning Difficulties Representative
    The Disabled Students Representative represents all Disabled Students/Students with Learning Difficulties within the college across all the campuses. As well as representing them, they are responsible for handling issues of equality for these students. Is elected and has a vote. 

 

Members without Portfolio's

Role: The Co-opted Members of the Executive represent all students and assist the other members on running the Executive.

Additional Portfolio's

  • Student Governor
    The Student Governor meets annually for for at least one meeting a year with the College Management. The Student Governor is consulted on college policies the management is discussing and the Student Governor raises student issues with the Management. 
      

  • Student Representative on the Cross College Committee for Student Support
    This representatives is consulted and gives feedback on policies/plans the College Management is debating on Student Support

  • Student Representative on the Cross College Committee for Equality and Equal Opportunities
    This representatives is consulted and gives feedback on policies/plans the College Management is debating on Equality and Equal Opportunities.

  • Student Representative on the Cross College Committee for Environmental Affairs
    This representatives is consulted and gives feedback on policies/plans the College Management is debating on Environmental Issues.
