Student
Union Launches New Website
Wednesday
12th February 2003

THE
BROADWAY CAMPUS: Today
the Executive Committee of the Student Union launched the
brand new Student Union website. Today
is the actual launch of the website however the official
launch ceremony is Wednesday 19th February when the site will
be launched by
Student Union President Jatinder Singh Basi and Dudley College
Principal Dr Gordon Hopkins. Also
attending the launch ceremony will be: Lia Khoo (Vice President of the Student Union),
Paul Withers (Student Governor, Broadway Campus Representative and the creator
of the website), Steve Williams (Student
Services Manager of Dudley College) and Steve Cox (Student Union Liaison
Officer), Student
Union President Jatinder Singh so far has commented "This
new website is really good, it's really going to help the
Union. We have had difficulty
getting the students informed as to what the Union is and what
it does, now with this new site we have a way of providing information about what
were doing
and how the Union works to it's members". The
website was developed as part of a strategy document entitled
"Further Development of the Student Union" which was
written by Paul (Broadway Rep) and given to the Executive
Committee during a meeting on Wednesday 22nd January. The
documents set outs possible plans of action on how the Union Executive
Committee could further develop the Student Union to make it a
more prominent student institution within the college. The
Student Union is now looking into how it can expand the site
and make it more inclusive with the members of the
Union. Possible
ideas which are being floated are:
-
A
Union Student News Society made up of Journalism or any
other interested students who could use the work they
carry out for the Union towards their coursework.
-
A
Union Student Issues Society which would be manage the
Student Issues and Student Voice divisions of the site and
write articles relating to Student Issues.
-
A
Union Web team made up of web design and IT students to
help in the managing of the site.
Right
now Paul is looking into the ideas and discussing them with
the rest of the Executive Committee as well as spearheading a
Union reform programme.
